Fabricio Andrade has a fight booked! The Brazilian shared a photo of him signing the bout agreement on Facebook earlier today but didn’t reveal who the opponent would be.

Andrade is currently the #1 ranked bantamweight. In a division that does not have a champion after John Lineker missed weight last month that makes him the top dog.

But Lineker only lost his title at the scales. The fight with Andrade finished in a no contest and the timing of this post might get fans thinking the rematch has already been booked.

Busy schedule

Lineker is the only other fighter in the top five who does not currently have a bout booked. #2 ranked former champion Bibiano Fernandes faces #5 ranked Stephen Loman at ONE on Prime Video 4 later this month.

Meanwhile #4 ranked Won Kwon Il is set to face the unranked Mark Abelardo at the same event. So unless one of these fighters has pulled out and Andrade is a late replacement all signs point towards a rematch with Lineker.

Andrade has made it clear that he wants to rematch Lineker but suggested that the former champion might be reluctant to accept that fight. There is certainly not a blemish on the Brazilian’s face as he signs this contract just two weeks after their title fight.

By contrast Lineker’s face was badly swollen, although it sounds like the damage was mainly superficial. But it remains to be seen whether the UFC veteran would be willing to accept such a quick turnaround after taking quite a beating in the first fight.

Unfinished business

The two Brazilians clearly have unfinished business. Andrade was on the verge of finishing Lineker when he threw a knee which connected clean with his opponent’s groin.

The result was not what the 26 year old would have wanted and it will go down on both men’s records as a no contest. But Andrade’s performance was so impressive that Joe Rogan described him as ‘a beast’.

Afterwards he said that he wanted a rematch with Lineker but also made it clear he wasn’t willing to wait. Andrade wants to stay active while he tries to extend his unbeaten ONE Championship run and eventually win the bantamweight title.

It will be interesting to see whether or not his next fight has the belt on the line, and whether Lineker is the opponent. But Andrade has put pen to paper and will be back in the ONE Championship cage soon.
