🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨
Eddie Alvarez's disqualification vs. Iuri Lapicus has been overturned to a NO CONTEST. Will "The Underground King" get back in the win column at ONE on TNT IV? @Ealvarezfight #WeAreONE #ONEChampionship #ONEonTNT4 pic.twitter.com/ELZYvXFb2o— ONE Championship (@ONEChampionship) April 26, 2021
The former UFC and Bellator lightweight champion was disqualified after repeatedly striking the back of Lapicus’ head. The referee issued a red card to Alvarez, which meant he was disqualified and his opponent won the fight.
‘The Underground King’ was close to tears in the wake of the result and expressed his concern for Lapicus’ wellbeing following the Moldovan’s departure on a stretcher. It would have been the second loss of his post UFC career, he was also beaten by Timofey Nastyukhin at ONE: ‘A New Era’.
But Alvarez has been handed a reprieve and his record now stands at 30-7-0-2. Lapicus loses a win from his record which now stands at 14-1-0-1.
Alvarez will be back in action this Wednesday (US time). He faces Ok Rae Yoon at ONE on TNT Part IV which is being broadcast live on the TNT channel in the US.
Lapicus is on a 90 day medical suspension so won’t be fighting again anytime soon.
