ONE Hero Series 11 took place in Beijing this afternoon and Hu Yong might well have earned himself a shot at the big show after a decision win over Wang Zhen. It was his fourth win in a row on the monthly events in China.
In the opening round Yong landed a series of low kicks. Zhen was looking for takedowns but couldn’t complete any of his attempts and the round finished with the two men trading right hands.
In the second stanza Zhen was looking to get the fight down but didn’t succeed until the dying seconds, and by then there was not enough time to capitalize with strikes or submission attempts. Meanwhile Yong landed low kicks to the inside and outside of his opponent’s left thigh.
Zhen was backtracking at the start of the third as his opponent landed more low kicks. He countered with a double leg takedown but couldn’t complete it.
Sensing that he was ahead on the scorecards Yong started to backtrack as Zhen became the aggressor for the first time in the fight. He did succeed in scoring a takedown with seconds remaining but it was too little, too late.
The judges were left with an easy decision and all three voted in favour of Yong who improves to 6-1 and has now won four out of four for ONE Hero Series. Disappointment set in for Zhen, who slips to 2-2 after suffering his second loss this year. He was also beaten by decision at M-1 Challenge 103.
