Anshul Jubli is officially a UFC fighter. The undefeated Indian earned a long term contract with an impressive performance in Las Vegas last weekend.

Jubli won the Road to UFC lightweight tournament with a stoppage win over Jeka Saragih. The undefeated Indian also earned a $50,000 USD bonus for his performance.

Rapid rise

It has been a rapid rise for the Indian who shot to prominence competing on Matrix Fight Night cards. He started out facing opponents from his homeland but burst onto the international scene last year.

His path to the final was a little fortuitous. Jubli got a bye into the semi final after Sho Patrick Usami withdraw from their opening round contest after a botched weight cut.

He then came up against Kyung Pyo Kim in the semi final and squeezed past the Korean by the narrowest of margins. That split decision win earned Jubli his spot in the final of the lightweight tournament.

He came up against Indonesia’s Saragih at UFC Vegas 68 last weekend. This time Jubli left no room for doubt with an emphatic first round stoppage win.

More success

Jubli will be hoping to have a more successful stint with the UFC than the last Indian to be signed by the promotion. Bharat Kandare was submitted in the opening round on his debut and subsequently failed a drug test and was handed a two year USADA ban.

Khandare was promptly cut by the UFC and has completely disappeared from the public eye. But having already won three fights inside the octagon Jubli is entitled to feel he has a much better chance of enjoying sustained success.

The Indian’s finances will also have been bolstered by the $50,000 USD bonus he picked up after winning his last fight. He has spent time training at Soma Fight Club in Bali and that money should finance a few more trips to Indonesia.

The camp is proving popular with Indians. Ritu Phogat is currently training there as she looks to return to the cage following back to back ONE Championship losses.
