It sounds like the Fairtex Gym in Pattaya is proving very popular with female fighters. It probably helps when you have champions like Stamp Fairtex and Smilla Sundell representing your camp.

The likes of Jihin Radzuan and Celest Hansen are also currently training at Fairtex. Julie Miller, the online Muay Thai influencer with 327,00 Instagram followers visited Pattaya to make a documentary about all the female fighters currently training there.

You can see several familiar faces in the video including Stamp Fairtex who has a big fight coming up next week:

Dramatic changes

She declared that she was,

“So impressed by the large number of ladies at Fairtex.”

While female fighters have been travelling to Thailand to train for several decades the situation has changed dramatically in recent years. Before Covid-19 the big cards at Lumpinee Stadium and Rajadamnern Stadium only featured men.

In fact women weren’t allowed to touch the ring at Lumpinee Stadium, let alone fight in it due to some old superstitions. But the Muay Thai industry was decimated by the pandemic and in the aftermath promoters were forced to reassess their values.

Big roster

Celest Hansen has fought at Lumpinee Stadium at least six times since the venue started allowing female fighters to compete. Meanwhile  Junior Fairtex has won three fights out of three there this year and is coming off a stoppage win over Zehra Doğan at ONE Friday Fights 33.

Competing at strawweight Nongam Fairtex has also won three fights out of three on ONE Championship’s Friday night events at Lumpinee. She is coming off a majority decision win over Francisca Vera at ONE Friday Fights 31.

Vera fights out of Phuket Fight Club which is also home to reigning ONE Championship atomweight Muay Thai champion Allycia Rodrigues. The Chilean had already beaten Gusjung Fairtex at ONE Friday Fights 4.

Meanwhile Doknaima Fairtex has a win over Phuket Fight Club’s Bárbara Aguiar from ONE Friday Fights 3. Tiger Muay Thai is also very popular with female fighters from overseas.

But the Fairtex Gym has one of the biggest rosters of active female fighters in the sport. Julie Miller regularly travels all over the world to train at Muay Thai gyms and is clearly very impressed by what she has seen in Pattaya.
