Junior Fairtex beat Pancake Kiatyongyut by split decision at Lumpinee Stadium last night. There was nothing to separate the two fighters after three rounds but ultimately two of the three judge saw if her way.

In the opening exchanges Junior snapped her opponent’s head back with a jab and she also landed a couple of elbows from close quarters. The two atomweights exchanged wild punches with Pancake also finding her mark.

In the second round Junior started to fins a home for her right kicks. She continued to fire off straight punches which consistently found their mark while Pancake’s looping shots frequently missed.

Difficult decision

Given that their was little to choose between the two fighters in the opening round the final three minutes was always likely to determine the outcome of the fight. This time it was Pancake who was the aggressor, looking to make up for a disappointing second stanza.

Pancake attacked from range with kicks and then followed up with knees and punches as she closed the distance. But while the aggression was coming from her Junior looked the more accurate as she continued to fire off fast kicks to the body.

It gave the judges a difficult decision with the second stanza having clearly gone Junior’s way but the first and third rounds both close and competitive.  In the end Junior won by the narrowest of margins, taking the victory courtesy of a split decision.

Best of the rest

There was something of an upset in the bantamweight Muay Thai fight between Mavlud Tupiev and Alaverdi Ramazanov. The latter is a former ONE Championship bantamweight kickboxing champion.

But Ramazanov was dropped by Tupiev in the opening round leaving him with a mountain to climb on the scorecards. He couldn’t do it and slipped to a decision defeat, his second loss in a row after getting stopped by Nong-O Gaiyanghadao at ONE Friday Fights 1.
