Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be cornering Saygid Izagakhmaev at ONE: ‘Heavy Hitters’. The former UFC lightweight champion is quarantined in his Singapore hotel room after testing positive for Covid-19.
The news was announced on the live broadcast moments ago. Nurmagomedov is in Singapore to corner Izagakhmaev who will be making his promotional debut. The Dagestan native is slated to face James Nakashima in a lightweight fight.
Despite the positive Covid-19 test for Nurmagomedov it seems that the lightweight fight between Izagakhmaev and Nakashima will go ahead. But the Russian won’t have the benefit of being cornered by one of the best fighters of all time, with his mentor recently stating that the two lightweights were very similar.
ONE: ‘Heavy Hitters’ has been decimated by Covid-19. Four bouts were cancelled at the last minute while another was hastily put together.
The event is going ahead with eight fights on the card and a live audience in attendance. But Nurmagomedov will be absent as will fighters like Roman Kryklia and Yushin Okami who saw bouts fall though due to Covid-19 protocols.
