ONE Championship recently passed a major landmark in terms of social media engagement. The Singapore headquartered MMA promotion broke into the top ten list for sports media properties.

The Facebook figures, released by independent social media marketing company Social Bakers, show ONE Championship rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest sport teams and leagues in the world.

ONE Championship CEO / Founder Chatri Sityodtong shared the list on Facebook along with a message to thank the fans who had helped make the promotion particularly popular on social media:

ONE Championship sits at #8 in the list with 46,299336 engagements, ahead of both the UEFA Champion’s League and NBA. Leading the way is Manchester United with 98,753757 engagements.

ONE Championship is the only Asian business or brand on the list. However the presence of the International Cricket Council at #2 suggests that fans in this part of the world are more likely to be engaging on Facebook.

Cricket is played in various parts of the world including England, Australia and South Africa. However the single biggest fanbase for the sport is in Asia, and in India and Pakistan in particular.

Manchester United remain the most popular football team on the planet. The club has retained a passionate fanbase despite not having won the league since 2013.

The other sports represented on the list are more traditional. There are football clubs and competitions, a basketball league and the international governing body for cricket.

ONE Championship stands out because, unlike football, basketball and cricket, MMA is not taught in schools and is a relatively new sport. The promotion has also expanded in recent years to feature kickboxing, Muay Thai, submission grappling and boxing.
