It looks like ONE Championship will be holding an event in Singapore for the second time this year. Chatri Sityodtong seemed to confirm on Facebook that a fight card would be taking place there on September 30th.

While the ONE Championship founder and CEO’s post was light on detail the inference was fairly clear. The promotion will be returning to Singapore in September after a six month absence.

New destination

ONE Championship has put on over 40 events at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, which hosted the promotion’s inaugural event back in 2011. This year the vast majority of shows have been held in Bangkok.

The last event to take place in Singapore was ONE Fight Night 8 in March. That event got underway early on Saturday morning in order to accommodate the Friday night audience watching on Amazon Prime in North America.

There isn’t a ONE Fight Night card currently scheduled for September 30th, which is a Saturday. So it is possible that the promotion could be putting together an event in Singapore on a Saturday night for the first time since 2012.

Busy schedule

ONE Fight Night 14 will be headlined by an interim atomweight title fight between Stamp Fairtex and Seo Hee Ham. The next card to be broadcast by Amazon Prime is ONE Fight Night 15 which is scheduled for October 6th but doesn’t currently have a venue confirmed.

ONE Championship has been holding events every Friday night at Lumpinee Stadium but these cards consist primarily of Muay Thai. So it will be interesting to see how the September 30th event fits into the promotion’s current schedule.

International expansion

Last year ONE Championship put on 13 events at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. But Bangkok has emerged as the promotion’s new base with fight cards taking place five times per month in Thailand’s capital.

This year the promotion also went to the US for the first time. ONE Fight Night 10 was held in Denver in May, it was the first card that has ever been held in a city outside of Asia.

But while the promotion is expanding internationally and has enjoyed real success in Thailand its roots remain in Singapore. It looks like there will be a ONE Championship card there on September 30th.
