The message from Phogat is: ‘It’s sexy and beautiful to be strong’. It is particularly pertinent in a country where women face many issues, staring in the womb where the preference for male children means that female babies can be selectively aborted.
In India women are statistically less likely than men to be taught to read and a rape is reported every 15 minutes on average. In this climate Phogat is a strong role model for young girls and is using her platform to spread a positive message.
She is the #4 ranked atomweight on the ONE Championship roster and looks set to continue her rise up the rankings in 2022.
