Road FC has inked a partnership deal with AfreecaTV, a P2P technology-based video streaming service, to introduce AfreecaTV Road Championship (ARC).
ARC is a professional MMA competition which aims to produce short content that can be consumed quickly by younger viewers. Officials have decided to introduce a format that will appeal to this demographic.
The fights will consist of three rounds lasting three minutes each. If a fighter finishes his or her opponent via knockout or submission within the first 30 seconds of the opening round, a bonus will be rewarded.
There will also be a 30-second stand up rule in effect to stop fighters from stalling during ground exchanges. The first event is slated to happen on May 23rd at Hot6ix Afreeca Colosseum, an e-sports arena, inside Lotte World Tower in southern Seoul.
The event will be headlined by an openweight contest pitting Heo Jae Hyuk (1-2) against Bae Dong Hyun (2-1). Following the Covid-19 guidelines of the government, the event center will not allow any audience members to enter the premises.
Staff, fighters and coaches are required to wear a mask at all times while a medical staff will be at the scene on standby to attend to any emergency. When entering and leaving, every individual will have their body temperature checked and hand sanitizer will be available.
Due to the global health crisis, Road FC has yet to have an event in 2020. The South Korea-based organization already has canceled two events, Road FC 58 which was slated for April 18th and Road FC 59 which had been scheduled for May 16th.
