Shinya Aoki got involved in a furious argument with Yoshihiro Akiyama at Road to ONE: ‘Sexyama Edition’ yesterday. The event was supposed to be a tribute to the UFC veteran but Aoki accused him of refusing to accept a f fight with him.
After his grappling match with Shutaro Debana ended in a draw Aoki got on the microphone and called out Akiyama asking him,
“Why you did not accept fight with me on September 6th? Why did you refuse the fight?”
Akiyama told Aoki he was injured and would fight him as soon as his rehabilitation was complete. Aoki wasn’t having any of this explanation and basically accused Sexyama of ducking him.
Aoki has been talking about wanting to fight Akiyama since January. While the former has fought and won twice for ONE Championship this year as well as drawing yesterday’s grappling match the latter has been out of action for over a year.
It seems this fight is definitely in the works and after yesterday’s altercation it looks certain to be a grudge match.
