The UFC returns to China on August 31st. This will be the third city in mainland China to host a card after Beijing and Shanghai.
The event will take place at the 18,000 capacity Universiade Sports Centre Arena. At present no details are available about the actual fight card but strawweight Zhang Weili looks likely to feature.
UFC Senior Vice President Asia-Pacific Kevin Chang underlined the importance of the country to the promotion,
“We continue to add new cities in China to our global calendar of events, and we are excited to see the momentum that is steadily building. China is the most important growth market for UFC, and our ongoing success is a testament to the loyalty of our passionate fans, the on-going support from our partners, and the work we are doing to fast-track the development of UFC ready athletes in this region,” he said.
UFC Fight Night 141 took place in Beijing last November and was headlined by heavyweights Francis Ngannou and Curtis Blaydes. It also featured Chinese fighters Yadong Song, Li Jingliang, Kenan Song, Wu Yanan, Hu Yaozong, Weili Zhang, Pingyuan Liu, Yan Xiaonan and Su Mudaerji.
Next month a UFC Performance Institute will open in Shanghai.
