Zeus FC 5 will take place on September 6th at the Grand Plaza Hotel in Cheogju with a bantamweight Grand Prix. It will be the promotion’s first event since lockdown.
The four man tournament will determine their identity of the promotion’s inaugural 135lbs champion. Among the contenders is Yoo Soo Young (6-1) who comes into the Grand Prix on the back of a six fight winning streak.
Many consider Yoo (6-1) to be one of the best grapplers on the local scene. Last November the 26-year-old flew over to Japan late last year and knocked out Yuichi Ohashi in 73 seconds at Pancrase 310.
He has been matched with Hwang Sung Joo (2-7). Yoo’s opponent is a better fighter than his record suggests and holds a win over Choi Han Gil, who will be competing in the other semi final.
Sitting on the other side of the bracket is Ahn Sang Joo (3-3) and the aforementioned Gil. The former is riding a two-fight winning streak and was submitted by Yoo at TFC 18 in 2018.
Choi (3-2) is a protegee of the Korean Zombie. He was last seen in action at Zeus FC 3 last January where he scored a a devastating stoppage finish over Yoon Jin Soo.
In other news, Zeus FC has plans to hold another tournament this year in an undetermined women’s division alongside a reality show. Details will be released in the coming weeks.
