ONE Championship has added another elite grappler to its stable. Chatri Sityodtong announced that he had signed the multiple time BJJ world champion.
He broke the news on Facebook late last night:
Galvao has signed to compete in MMA. He currently has a 5-2 record and the only men to beat him are Jason High and Tyron Woodley. The 39 year old fought for Strikeforce and Dream but has not competed since 2010.
Galvao has been extremely active in submission grappling, he has eight ADCC gold medals and has won gold at the World Championships ten times. He is currently the head coach at the ATOS submission grappling team.
Will Galvao have a similar impact to Garry Tonon who has earned a featherweight title shot after winning his first six ONE Championship fights? Or will he go the way of Yuri Simões who signed with a lot of hype but was beaten on his debut and hasn’t been seen since?
We will find out soon!
