After no showing the ONE Fight Night 6 weigh ins and causing a last minute reshuffle to the card Anissa Meksen told fans there had been a family problem. But several weeks later the French fighter has unveiled a totally different explanation.

It turns out the issue was with her contract, not her family. It seems Meksen and her team did not read the small print and discovered just days before the fight that mixed rules fights cannot end in a decision win.

No winner

This would have been just the second time in ONE Championship history that the promotion had put on a mixed rules fight. So there is not much precedent but it seems that if these bouts go the distance then no winner is announced,

The French fighter declared that,

I would never have agreed to fight without a decision.

For some reason ONE Championship decided to offer Meksen a title shot during the midst of this dispute. But Stamp Fairtex decided she no longer wanted to face the French fighter.

Lack of respect

With Stamp unwilling to fight her Meksen demanded a shot at another belt, telling ONE Championship she was willing to fight at either atomweight or strawweight. But an offer never materialized and it sounds like Meksen won’t be fighting for the promotion again.

She told her Instagram followers that,

Given the lack of respect with which the One has treated I simply decided to leave.

ONE Championship did allow several Petchyindee fighters to cancel their contracts after a falling out between the two promotional teams. But having pulled out of her last fight at very late notice and caused two fighters to face totally new opponents and another to miss out on a fight altogether Meksen might not be in much of a position to negotiate.

It is a shame because she has looked like one of the most talented female fighters on the roster and impressed every time she has fought for ONE Championship. But Meksen turns 35 this year and her options look extremely limited at this stage.

It isn’t clear what Meksen has in mind when she says she has ‘decided to leave’. If her ONE Championship contract expires imminently this should be a simply process, if not the French fighter could be in for a protracted dispute.
