Christian Lee has no time for Eddie Alvarez’s trash talk. The reigning ONE Championship lightweight champion gave a scathing response when he was asked about the veteran’s attempts to bait him,
“For me, there’s certain people who can actually pull off the trash talk. There are certain people where it’s just in them. A guy like Conor McGregor where he’s calling people out, he really means it. Then you’ve got guys like Eddie Alvarez who really tried to stir up drama when there is no drama,” said Lee.
Lee is riding a six fight winning streak that includes wins over two opponents which Alvarez failed to beat. He doesn’t see the former UFC and Bellator lightweight champion as a serious threat and made it clear there was no rivalry between them,
“There’s never been anything between me and Eddie, we see each other in the hallway without fighting, we see each other and everything is fine. There’s no real drama between us but I guess online there is. I don’t spend my time tracking it. For me, any trash talk that’s ever been said by any of my opponents is just a joke to me and I don’t spend my time paying any attention to it,” Lee added.
Alvarez signed for ONE Championship in a fanfare of publicity and was hoping to become the first fighter to ever win titles with all of the big three promotions. But the 37 year old has only won one out of his four fights so far and isn’t currently ranked at lightweight.
By contrast Lee is on the form of his life. The 23 year old is set to face Ok Rae Yoon at ONE: ‘Revolution’ later this month, the Korean earned his title shot with a decision win over Alvarez.
It is a fight the fans would love to see but time is not on Alvarez’s side as he looks to turn his ONE Championship career around. By contrast Lee’s biggest worry is that he might run out of opponents.
If Lee can overcome Yoon this month he will have wins over every single ranked fighter at lightweight and might need to move up a division in order to find a worthy challenger.
