The UFC‘s maiden event in Shenzhen has faced some issues due to the ongoing protests in nearby Hong Kong. The card has also taken a hit with sources in Korea saying that Jamal Hill has pulled out with an injury and Da Un Jung will now face Khadis Imbragimov.
Imbragimov (8-0) is the reigning M-1 light heavyweight champion. He will be making his promotional debut at UFC Shenzhen and appears to have accepted the bout on relatively late notice, with news of Hill’s withdrawal emerging earlier this week.
Jung (11-2) will be the first Korean in history to compete in the 205lbs division for the UFC. He is riding a ten fight winning streak that saw him pick up the Heat light heavyweight title.
As previously announced Weili Zhang faces reigning strawwweight champion Jessica Andrade in Shenzhen on August 31st. She will become the first Chinese fighter to ever challenge for a UFC belt.
Meanwhile Korean middleweight Jun Yong Park, Chinese welterweight Li Jingliang, Chinese flyweight Wu Yanan, Japanese strawweight Mizuki Inoue, Mongolian bantamweight Batgerel Danaa and Asian MMA veteran Kai Kara France will all be involved.
This will be the promotion’s third event in mainland China after cards in Shanghai and Beijing.
