In the aftermath of UFC Vegas 10 the media asked Dana White what his plans are for reigning strawweight champion Weili Zhang.

Replying to a question about whether Rose Namajunas was next in line the UFC president gave an unequivocal response,

“We’re working on that right now,” he said.

Also in the mix is former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk who lost to Zhang at UFC 248. It was a contender for ‘fight of the year’ and there would be plenty of interest in a rematch.

But Namajunas has won four out of her last five and beaten Jedrzejczyk. She also avenged her only recent loss by stopping Jéssica Andrade at UFC 237 and White is adamant that she is next in line to face Zhang,

“That’s the fight we want to make. So we’re working on it,” he said.

Namajunas is a former UFC strawweight champion. She lost the title to Andrade and the belt wasn’t on the line when she beat the Brazilian in the rematch.

That’s because Zhang has already beaten Andrade at UFC Shenzhen. She became the promotion’s first ever Chinese champion in the process and has successfully defended the belt once against Jedrzejczyk.

It looks like her second title defence is being put together right now. A title fight pitting Zhang against #1 ranked contender and former champion Namajunas is in the works, according to the UFC president.
