Amir Aliakbari has signed with ONE Championship according to ESPN. The Rizin veteran boasts a 10-1 record with his only loss coming at the hands of Mirko Crocop.

Aliakbari won a gold medal in Greco Roman wrestling at the world championships in 2010. He made his MMA debut in 2015 after training extensively at AKA Thailand in Phuket.

In 2016 he beat three separate opponents to book his spot in the final of the Rizin Openweight Grand Prix. But Aliakbari was stopped in the first round by K-1, Pride and UFC veteran Crocop.

The 32 year old bounced back to win his next five fights. Last year Aliakbari announced he had signed with the UFC but the contract was cancelled when it emerged he would be unable to transfer his earnings to Iran due to ongoing US sanctions.

UFC veteran Brandon Vera holds the ONE Championship heavyweight title. But the roster has been bolstered by the addition of several heavyweights in recent months including BJJ world champion Tom DeBlass.
