Khamzat Chimaev finally has a fight booked! The undefeated welterweight will take on Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 in Jacksonville next month.
Chimaev has been training in Tiger Muay Thai although he appears to be back in Sweden now. He is currently ranked #11 while his opponent is #2.
That means Chimaev (11-0) could move into immediate title contention with a win. But Burns (20-4) who holds a BJJ black belt will be the toughest opponent he has ever faced.
Chimaev has been linked with a shot at reigning middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. The two men are both Tiger Muay Thai alumni but he seems set to stat at 170lbs for the time being.
As previously announced the featherweight title fight between The Korean Zombie and Alex Volkanovski will headline this card. The co-main event is the long awaited unification bout between regular bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and interim champion Petr Yan.
The Russian was disqualified at UFC 259 for throwing an illegal knee in the fourth round of a fight he appeared to be winning comfortably. Yan is currently preparing for this fight at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket.
