AFC 14 is set for Paju on August 17th. The event will be headlined by an interim middleweight title fight between Kim Jae Young and Cha In Ho.
It will be the first show Angel’s Fighting has put on since coronavirus, or Covid-19, put a halt to all sporting events in Korea. With reigning middleweight champion Sasha Palatnikov unable to travel the promotion has decided to put an interim title on the line.
Kim (24-13) had originally been scheduled to challenge Palatnikov for the middleweight title. He is coming off a submission victory over Youlong Luo on his promotional debut at AFC 13 x MMC: Star Wars in Asia.
After competing against the best in Korea for Spirit MC and Road FC, the 36 year old finally became champion in 2017 under the TFC banner. He has a good reputation locally and has had a handful of fights in Europe.
Cha (2-4) has spent his entire career with Road FC but has had mixed results. He retired from boxing in 2013 as the reigning Korea light heavyweight champion with a 5-0 record.
In MMA competition he has become known for his Muay Thai. But going into this fight Cha will be returning after a three-year absence from MMA competition and is coming off a two-fight losing skid.
Also rumored to be competing on the card is reigning bantamweight champion Song Young Jae (4-0) and Dana White’s Contender Series vet Yoo Sang Hoon (5-1). The latter was last seen in action at AFC 12 where he snatched up the strap with a third-round TKO finish over ‘Korean Zombie’ protege Seo Jin Soo.
Meanwhile, Yoo lost for the first time as a professional and came up short trying to capture a UFC contract against Peter Barrett last summer in Las Vegas.
