ONE Championship will be entering new territory in 2020. Founder and CEO Chatri Sityodtong is currently in India and he can ‘confirm 100%’ that the promotion will be putting on an event there next year:
The timeline is consistent with some of ONE Championship’s recent signings. India’s Asha Roka is in action at ONE: ‘Dreams of Gold’ next week while Gurdarshan Mangat has won two bouts out of two for the promotion while Arjan Bhullar and Ritu Phogat are awaiting their debuts.
Last year ONE Championship put on its inaugural event in Japan. Shows in Vietnam and Korea are in the calendar for the final quarter of 2019 meaning that India is the largest Asian territory to yet have a card scheduled.
The Super Fight League appears to no longer be operational and the MMA market in India has slowed. But there are still events happening, like Matrix Fight Night 2 which was held in Delhi a few weeks ago.
