Reinier de Ridder has now beaten the ONE Championship light heavyweight champion, middleweight champion and light heavyweight champion. His win over Kiamrian Abbasov tonight in Singapore was the most one sided of the mall.
The middleweight title fight headlined ONE: ‘Full Circle’. Abbasov holds the welterweight strap but was moving up a division to challenge the Dutchman.
It did not turn out to be a good move. De Ridder needed roughly five seconds to get his first takedown, rushing forwards to secure the body lock and put Abbasov on his back.
From there he spent the rest of the round looking for submissions and landing some ground and pound. Some of the shots must have found their mark because by the end of the round Abbasov was bleeding badly.
Ground and pound
Abbasov found himself on his back again at the start of the second round. This tine the Dutchman decided to focus on ground and pound, raining down punches and elbows.
With seconds remaining in the round he sank in a head and arm choke and Abbasov appeared to tap immediately after the bell. There was only going to be one winner at this stage and when De Ridder secured a single leg takedown at the start of the third the finish came fast.
He sank in another head and arm choke and this time there was no doubt about the tap. With the win de Ridder improves to 15-0 while Abbasov drops to 23-5.
Best of the rest
Earlier in the evening Vitaly Bigdash prevailed in the trilogy match with Aung La Nsang. Like the first two fights it went the distance although this time the title was not on the line.
Bigdash, who missed weight for this middleweight fight, used his wrestling to nullify La Nsang’s striking skills. The win takes him to 12-2 while the Burmese fighter drops to 27-13-0-1.
