The first fight has been announced for the second of ONE Championship’s weekly cards at Lumpinee Stadium. Two big names will be rematching each other when Sangmanee PKSaenchaigym takes on Kulabdam Sor Jor Piek U-Thai.

Sangmanee was once the golden boy of the Bangkok stadiums. The 2012 ‘fighter of the year’ winner used to command the biggest purses out of any fighter on the domestic scene in Thailand.

But his stock has fallen in the last few years and the decline could possibly be dated back to 2020 when he was knocked out in the opening round by Kulabdam. That fight took place on a ONE Championship card in Bangkok during the height of the pandemic, so the Impact Arena was empty.

Lumpinee Stadium is likely to be packed to the rafters for the rematch which will be a three rounder.

Small gloves

Once again the two men will be wearing MMA gloves. Last time out Kulapdam knocked Sangmanee out with a devastating left hook so you might think that the smaller gloves suited him.

But he has been knocked out himself in the ONE Championship ring. In 2021 Saemapetch Fairtex finished him with a straight left to the body so the 24 year old has not always enjoyed the experience of fighting in MMA gloves.

Inaugural event

The first ever ONE Lumpinee card takes place this Friday. It features some of the biggest names in the sport like Saeksan Or Kwanmuang, Muangthai PKSaenchaigym amd Prajanchay PKSaenchaigym.

The card will be headlined by Nong-O Gaiyanghadao who defends his bantamweight Muay Thai title against Alaverdi Ramazanov in what will be the only five rounder on the fight card. The rest of the Muay Thai bouts will be three rounds, with all the fighter wearing MMA gloves.

The ONE Lumpinee events will take place every Friday night. They are being broadcast by Channel 7 in Thailand and shown worldwide on various platforms through the promotion’s broadcast partners.

Lumpinee Stadium will also play host to ONE Fight Night 7. That event is set for February 25th and will be headlined by an all Brazilian bantamweight title fight between John Lineker and Fabricio Andrade.
