Shooto 1220 took place at Hotel Mielparque in Osaka yesterday. In the main event Shutaro Debana faced Yu Tanaka with the vacant Pacific Rim lightweight title on the line.
Debana had challenged unsuccessfully for the main lightweight title at Shooto 0712. He came up short against Yuki Kawana on that occasion but bounced back with a win here.
‘Captain Africa’ needed less that five minutes to submit Tanaka with an armbar. The win takes Debana to 6-3 while his opponent drops to 5-3.
In the co-main event Takumi Tamaru got back to winning ways. He was coming off a stoppage loss to Tatsuya Ando at Shooto 0801 in a fight that had the Pacific Rim bantamweight title on the line.
Tamaru came into the bout with Daiki Tsubota as a strong favourite and so it proved. The 24 year old won with a third round front choke to take his tally to 12-2 while his opponent drops to 6-8.
Teenager Koyuru Tanoue (4-0) remains undefeated. The 18 year old, who also had a successful career as an amateur, stopped Atsuhito Nagai (4-7) midway through the second round of their strawweight fight.
There was also a win for Yamato Nishikawa (12-3-5). He stopped Yota Hayashi (3-3-1) late in the third round of their catchweight contest which was set at 161lbs.
This was the final Shooto event of the year. Last week the promotion released a full schedule of shows for 2021.
