Sittichai Sitsongpeenong has signed with ONE Championship. The former Glory lightweight champion has put pen to paper on a contract with the Singapore based promotion.
His management took to Facebook to confirm the news earlier today:
The 28 year old established himself as one of the best pound for pound fighters on the Glory roster by winning 11 fights out of 13 for the kickboxing promotion. He beat the likes of Marat Grigorian and Robin van Roosmalen.
At Glory 65 last May Sittichai lost his lightweight title to Grigorian. It was the fifth meeting between the two men and the Thai had won the previous four.
Before establishing himself as one of the world’s best kickboxers Sittichai had a very successful Muay Thai career. He held the Lumpinee and Thailand 147lbs titles and also won two Toyota Marathons.
It remains to be seen whether Sittichai will continue his kickboxing career or return to Muay Thai. But there are no shortage of opponents on the ONE Super Series roster.
Superbon Banchamek, who holds a 2016 win over Sittichai, is on the roster and awaiting his debut. Other Thai fighters who could potentially be matched with the former Glory champion are Yodsanklai Fairtex and Petchmorrakot Petchyindeeacademy.
Recently crowned featherweight kickboxing Grand Prix winner Giorgio Petrosyan is another potential opponent. He looks set to be handed a title shot and Sittichai could be a candidate to face the two time K-1 Max champion.
