Stamp Fairtex stepped up at very short notice to face Supergirl Jaroonsakgym in a strawweight kickboxing fight. She was outweighed by nearly 10lbs but put in a spirited performance to earn a debatable split decision win and a $50,000 USD bonus.

Anissa Meksen caused chaos by completely failing to turn up the weigh ins on Thursday. She had initially been set to face Stamp in an atomweight mixed rules bout consisting of alternate rounds of Muay Thai and MMA.

With Stamp being such a popular figure in Thailand there was a scramble to find an alternative opponent in order to keep her on the card. In the end she was matched with Supergirl in a strawweight kickboxing fight with Ekaterina Vandaryeva missing out altogether.

Big entrance

Stamp made a big entrance as per normal, performing a well rehearsed dance routine to some Korean pop music. But she did not have things all her own way once the bell sounded with Supergirl walking her down and landing multiple punches.

Supergirl outweighed her by 9.5lbs on Thursday and had a significant advantage in terms of height and reach. Stamp was able to land some slick counters from the back foot but frequently found herself trapped against the cage, eating punches.

At the start of the second round Supergirl dropped Stamp with a right hand but the referee ruled it a flash knockdown. There was clearly no animosity between the two fighters frequently touched gloves and appeared to be joking with one another.

Presumably confident she had won the first two rounds Supergirl took her foot of the gas in the final three minutes. It allowed Stamp to finish strongly and that was enough to convince two of the three judges to award her the decision win.

Cash bonus

In the end two of the three judges scored the fight for Stamp, presumably feeling she had done enough to win the last two rounds. Supergirl is entitled to feel hard done by and the sight of her opponent being awarded a $50,000 USD bonus will have only added salt to the wound.

It is the second time in a row Supergirl has seen her opponent walk away with $50,000 USD. Last time out she was the recipient of an extremely generous split decision win over Ekaterina Vandaryeva but it was the Belarusian who was handed the performance bonus.

Regardless of whether or not you agree with the judging there is no question that Stamp deserves credit for agreeing to face a much bigger opponent at such short notice. She is one of the biggest stars on the roster and could be set to compete for a title in either kickboxing, Muay Thai or MMA.
