Alex Volkanovski recently gave an interview in which he talked up Superbon Banchamek’s potential as a mixed martial artist. The kick-boxer is definitely on board with the idea and is already calling out ONE Championship featherweight king Thanh Le.

He called out Le on Instagram and declared that he was ready to train with Volkanovski:

Other commitments

Volkanovski might have a few other commitments on his plate. The Australian is the reigning UFC featherweight champion and one of the best pound for pound fighters on the planet.

Him and Superbon were both in Phuket for the grand opening of Bang Tao Muay Thai. It is unclear whether either fighter is going to be there long term though.

Superbon is set to face newly crowned ONE Championship featherweight Grand Prix winner Chingiz Allazov next. Winning that fight would really underline his credentials as being the best kickboxer on the planet.

Title fight

Next up for Volkanovski should be a title fight with Max Holloway. He put a beating on The Korean Zombie at UFC 273 earlier this month, Chan Sun Jung had stepped in to replace the injured Hawaiian.

So Superbon is unlikely to have enough spare time to start training in a completely new sport. Meanwhile Volkanovski might be a bit too busy defending his UFC title to dedicate himself to coaching the kickboxer.

Volkanovski is currently on a 23 fight winning streak that has seen him beat all the best featherweights on the UFC roster. He has successfully defended his featherweight title three times and beaten former champions on three occasions.

Respective sports

Meanwhile Superbon has won his last 12 and managed to knock out Giorgio Petrosyan in what will go down as one of the greatest upsets in kickboxing history. Both men are at the absolute pinnacle of their respective sports.

Next up for Thanh Le looks likely to be a fight with #1 ranked Tang Kai who is also currently in Phuket, training at Tiger Muay Thai. Superbon has a long way to go before challenging the champion, he needs to win a few fights and work his way up the rankings.

First and foremost he needs to start training MMA. But with Volkanovski in his corner you definitely wouldn’t bet against him!
