Garry Tonon already has an extensive collection of titles from his grappling career. But the BJJ black belt has his eye on an MMA belt that is currently the property of Martin Nguyen.
Tonon, who is undefeated in MMA, took to Twitter to call out the Australian:
What happens when and unstoppable Force meets an immovable object? A whole lotta fireworks. Tell @yodchatri @ONEChampionship and @MartinNguyenMMA this is the title fight you wanna see #tononvsnguyen #ONEChampionship #mma #bjj #martialarts #titlefight #championship pic.twitter.com/FqMH7SRHya

Tonon holds a perfect professional record of 5-0, with all five fights taking place under the ONE Championship banner. His last victory came at ONE: ‘Enter the Dragon’ in May but since then he has been competing nearly every month in submission grappling contests.
Nguyen is 13-3 and much more experienced in MMA terms. He was last seen in action at ONE: ‘Dawn of Heroes’ in August and has been the promotion’s featherweight champion since 2017 as well as challenging for the bantamweight belt and briefly holding the lightweight strap.
Other top contenders in the featherweight division include Thanh Le. However he shares Vietnamese roots with Nguyen and matchmakers might be reluctant to throw them in together now that the expansion into that market is underway.
Reigning lightweight champion Christian Lee has also spent the majority of his career competing in the featherweight division. He has been beaten twice by Nguyen but recent form would make him a contender should he choose to drop back down.
