Before Valentina Shevchenko became the UFC flyweight champion she was a Muay Thai fighter training and competing in Phuket. After her successful title defence last weekend she addressed the Las Vegas crowd in multiple languages including Thai:

Shevchenko, who has ‘Muay Thai’ tattooed on her left arm in Thai, said,

“Hello Thailand! Hello Tiger Muay Thai! I am a Muay Thai fighter, Muay Thai is very strong.”

Before Covid-19 she was a regular visitor to Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket. Shevchenko speaks fluent Russian, Spanish and English and appears to be in the process of adding Thai to the long list of languages she is competent in.

At UFC 266 she successfully defended her flyweight title for the sixth time. Shevchenko stopped Lauren Murphy in the fourth round at the T-Mobile Arena.
