Victoria Souza is making her ONE Championship debut this Friday. The Brazilian beauty believes she can become the first fighter to ever defeat Victoria Lee,
“The Lee family is very big in ONE, but I’m very calm and very confident that I can win this fight. There’s no pressure for me at all,” she said.
Souza is more experienced than the Hawaiian. She brings a 5-0 record into ONE: ‘Revolution’ but does not come into this contest as the favourite.
Famous family
That is because Lee comes from one of the most famous fighting families and her older brother and sister are both ONE Championship title holders. There has been a lot of hype around the teenager and Souza knows exactly who she is,
“I’ve seen her fights so far. I think Victoria had the perfect strategy to win her first two fights,” she said.
She admits that her opponent doesn’t have many weaknesses,
“She is a high-level athlete and very complete. But even so, I will impose my game. I don’t see many weaknesses but I want to follow my team’s plan to win.”
Dream job
Souza says she was a fan of ONE Championship long before receiving an offer to join the promotion’s roster,
“I was training one day, and they showed some live ONE Championship events on the TV sets at the gym. I watched, and it hooked me almost instantly,” she reveals.
“I love everything about ONE. I was a fan before I even joined. Everything is perfect. It was my dream to join this organization.”
The Brazilian believes she is ready for anything Lee could throw at her this Friday,
“I’m completely prepared for both her striking and her grappling. I have five wins on my record, two by knockout and two by submission, so I’m prepared for anything to happen.”
Perfect strategy
It sounds like Souza and her team have spent a lot of time reviewing Lee’s two previous ONE Championship fights but she says she won’t change her style,
“I studied my opponent and adapted my game to face her, but without changing my style. I’m aggressive and I try to fight all the time. I don’t like to leave the result to the judges. I fight to submit or knock my opponents out.”
Souza suggests she has found the ‘perfect strategy’ to beat Lee,
“I have the perfect strategy to win this fight,” she says.
But the Brazilian is realistic and knows that she will need to make a big impression even if it isn’t possible to get the finish,
“My game plan is to finish the fight as soon as possible. But if that’s not possible, I want to score a lot so that there is no doubt in the judges’ minds.”
