A fight between Aung La Nsang and Yushin Okami has been in the works for a long time . The Japanese veteran has been very vocal about wanting to fight the former ONE Championship middleweight and light heavyweight champion.

It seems the feeling is mutual and La Nsang took to Twitter to announce he wants to face Okami next:

Date with destiny

There is a ONE Championship event booked for June 3rd so La Nsang probably hasn’t picked this date at random. He tagged the UFC veteran in the post and asked him ‘shall we dance?’

La Nsang is coming off a decision defeat to Vitaly Bigdash in their third fight. Meanwhile Okami has been out of action for over two years and is coming off a split decision win over Agilan Thani.

The Japanese veteran saw a fight fall through at the last minute when Leandro Ataides tested positive for Covid-19. He managed to fight three time for ONE Championship in 2019 but hasn’t competed since.

Legendary status

La Nsang is the former middleweight and light heavyweight champion and at one stage he was ONE Championship’s pound for pound king. But his stock has fallen after back to back defeats to Reinier de Ridder and the Burmese star is currently without a title.

But unlike Okami he has been active and has fought three times since the UFC veteran last stepped inside the ONE Championship cage. The 36 year old remains a big fan favourite and has a huge following in his native Myanmar.

Meanwhile Okami is a legend in his own right having fought 21 times for the UFC and been in with the likes of Anderson Silva, Jake Shields, Rich Franklin, Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz. A fight between him and La Nsang has been in the works for months if not years.

Could it finally be set to happen in 2022?
