Chatri Sityodtong is now officially a promoter at Lumpinee Stadium. The venue, which was opened at its original location in 1956, only allows a select few people to put on fight cards in its premises.

Lumpinee Stadium moved to brand new location in 2014. Confusingly it is nowhere near the Lumpinee area in the centre of Bangkok but is located further north on on Ram Intra Road.

The stadium has undergone some major changes in recent months with the decision to ban gamblers and allow MMA fights to take place. Historically Lumpinee Stadium has exclusively held Muay Thai bouts apart from the occasional boxing match.

Chatri announced the news on Facebook earlier today:

Upcoming event

On September 12th ONE Championship will be holding a press conference at Lumpinee Stadium. It seems likely that the promotion will announce the date of its first ever fight card at the stadium.

There have already been a series of Road to ONE events at Lumpinee Stadium, promoted by Fairtex. The winners of these tournaments will earn a contract with ONE Championship.

Starboy Petchkiatpetch was among the winners on the inaugural event while Avatar Tor Morsi recorded a big win at the second show. Both men booked their spot in the semi finals of their respective tournaments.

New venue

To date ONE Championship has held ten events in Bangkok and every single one has been held at the Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani, towards the far north of the city. Lumpinee Stadium is slightly closer to the centre of town which potentially makes it a more convenient location for fight fans.

ONE Championship has not held an event in Bangkok since 2020. Three events took place at the Impact Arena that year with Thailand adopted as the promotion’s temporary base during Covid-19.

The pandemic would eventually catch up with Thailand that year and since then ONE Championship has held events exclusively in Singapore. But with international restrictions easing the promotion is ready to hit the road again.

ONE on Prime Video 3 is set for Tokyo in November while ONE 164 is confirmed for Manila in December. A fight card at Lumpinee Stadium also appears to be in the works and we should get more details at next month’s press conference.
