An immediate rematch has been ordered between Ekaterina Vandaryeva and Supergirl Jaroonsakgym. The Thai was handed a controversial split decision win over the Belarusian at ONE: ‘Heavy Hitters’ last week.
In the past debatable decisions like this have been reviewed and in some cases overturned by the competition committee. However according the SCMP this will no longer happen and whatever decision the judges render on fight night will stand.
This is bad news for Vandaryeva who might have expected to be retrospectively awarded the win. But she received a $50,000 USD performance bonus instead so the Belarusian won’t be too disappointed.
Supergirl took to Instagram to apologize for her performance and suggested she had been suffering from ‘ring rust’ after going 16 months without a fight. Vandaryeva was adamant that she should have won and shared a video on Instagram of her landing about 30 unanswered punches.
ONE Championship has a very busy schedule with two live events a month this year and at least 12 fights on every card. So Supergirl definitely won’t have to wait too long for her next fight!
