ONE Championship has found an opponent for Stamp Fairtex. In the end matchmakers did not have to look too far to find a solution to the problem which arose when Anissa Meksen didn’t turn up to yesterday’s weigh ins.
Meksen will be replaced by Supergirl Jaroonsakgym. She had initially been set to rematch Ekaterina Vandaryeva in a strawweight Muay Thai fight but the Belarusian missed weight.
So instead of scrambling to find a fighter ready to step up and face Stamp on 48 hours notice the promotion has simply thrown in Supergirl. It isn’t a perfect fit with some compromises clearly being made in terms of the ruleset and weight class.
SCMP MMA broke the news just now on Instagram:

Height advantage
Stamp had originally been booked to face Meksen in a mixed rules atomweight fight. It would have alternated between Muay Thai and MMA with both fighters required to tip the scales at 115lbs and pass hydration tests.
Meanwhile Supergirl was set to face Vandaryeva in an atomweight Muay Thai fight. Both fighters were required to tip the scales at 125lbs and pass hydration tests but only the Thai managed to do it.
So Stamp will be taking on an opponent with a 10lbs weight advantage. Meanwhile Supergirl will be competing in kickboxing for possibly the first time in her life, all her previous fights appear to have been contested under Muay Thai rules.
Stamp has more experience in kickboxing and is the former ONE Championship atomweight title holder. But she will be giving away 10lbs against an opponent with a five inch height advantage.

last minute
Stamp was scheduled to face Meksen in a fight for the interim atomweight kickboxing title next. The French fighter sounded very confident that the fight would still take place when she announced on Instagram earlier today that she had pulled out of ONE Fight Night 6 due to a ‘family problem’.
But with Meksen having left it to the very last minute to withdraw and Stamp moving up to strawweight to compete under kickboxing rules that fight has to be in doubt. It means the fans at Impact Arena in Bangkok will get an all Thai fight to entertain them.
There are currently eight fights on the card although this last minute reshuffle has not been confirmed by the promotion yet.
