For decades female fighters could only dream of competing at Lunpinee Stadium. Women weren’t allowed to touch the ring, let alone step inside to participate in an actual fight.
But in 2023 that has all changed. Supergirl Jaroonsakgym got to compete at the famous venue for the first time on Saturday morning and scored a decision win over Lara Fernandez at ONE Fight Night 13.
She has fought at bigger venues such as the Singapore Indoor Stadium and Impact Arena. But none of them has the same historical significance as Lumpinee and Supergirl admits the pressure was on as she set out to face an opponent who only accepted the fight at the last minute,
“I was very excited (but) I had to win.”

Too small
She was competing under kickboxing rules for the second time. It was also set to be Supergirl’s atomweight debut but the limit was raised by a few pounds when Fernández replaced Cristina Morales at the last minute.
She faced Stamp Fairtex in another last minute strawweight kickboxing bout at ONE Fight Night 6. She looked significantly bigger than her opponent that night but is adamant that her future lies in the atomweight division.
She might be bigger than Stamp but Supergirl feels she is too small to compete in ONE Championship’s strawweight division. Asked about the possibility of facing Smilla Sundell or Xiong Jing Nan she responded,
“I think I cannot, last fight I was underweight.”
Supergirl 🇹🇭 beats Lara Fernandez by unanimous decision! Who’s next? 🥊

So big
Her sister, Wondergirl Jaroonsakgym, has boxing match coming up. She faces Xiong Jing Nan at ONE Fight Night 14 in a bout that both strawweights will be wearing MMA gloves for.
Supergirl confidently predicted that her older sister would win. There is also a strawweight Muay Thai title on the line with champion Smilla Sundell rematching Jackie Buntan.
Supergirl was asked about that and told reporters that she thought Sundell was simply too big for Buntan,
“I think Smilla will win because she is so big.”
Supergirl has ruled out a return to strawweight. But she is coming off an impressive win over an atomweight and will be looking to stake a claim for a title in this division.
