Japanese legends Yuki Kondo and Akihiro Gono will face off at Pancrase 305 in a trilogy that has spanned 18 years. The two first fought in 2001 and the rematch took place in 2005.
The third fight is set for Tokyo on May 26th and it will be a rubber match with the two welterweights sharing one victory apiece. The first fight took place on a Pancrase card and Gono won, but Kondo prevailed in the rematch five years later at a Pride event.
Kondo (60-35-9) is a multiple division King of Pancrase. The 43 year old was last seen in action at ONE: ‘Reign of Kings’ last year when he was submitted by Renzo Gracie in the second round.
Gono (36-23-8) is a UFC and Pride veteran. The 44 year old fought twice in 2018 and both bouts ended in split decisions with only one of them going his way.
Pancrase 305 is set for Studio Coast in Tokyo. As previously announced the card will also feature a flyweight fight between Mamoru Yamaguchi and Toru Ogawa.
Next up for the promotion is Pancrase 304 which is set for Studio Coast on April 14th. The flyweight and lightweight titles will both be on the line.
