‘Never leave it in the hands of the judges’ was the message from the reigning ONE Championship atomweight queen, who is set to face the Grand Prix winner later this year. It is unlikely to cheer up a disconsolate Zamboanga who was absolutely devastated in the aftermath of the controversial defeat.

So does the champion practice what she preaches? A glance at her record shows that the answer is ‘yes’ she has only been the distance nine times in her 12 fights.

There were two decision wins over Mei Yamaguchi, the second of which was extremely contentious. There was also a decision defeat to Michelle Nicolini and, to her credit, Lee had no complaints afterwards acknowledging that the Brazilian deserved to win the fight.

There are four women left standing in the atomweight Grand Prix and Lee congratulated the winners after ONE: ‘Empower’. Joining Ham in the semi finals will be Stamp Fairtex, Ritu Phogat and Itsuki Hirata.

The champion awaits and we have just three more fights to go before finding out who will be the next challenger to Lee’s atomweight crown.
